It is hosted each year by a different national statistical institute (NSI) of the ESS in cooperation with Eurostat. The 2025 DGINS conference will take place in Split, Croatia on 22 and 23 October 2025.
DGINS 2025 Conference Theme – European Tourism Statistics: A Forward-Looking and Innovative Response to 21st Century User Needs
The DGINS conference (Conference of Directors General of National Statistical Institutes) is an annual event that brings together leading experts in the field of statistics from across Europe. DGINS provides an opportunity to exchange ideas, innovations and best practices among national statistical offices. The aim is to strengthen international cooperation and find solutions to complex statistical challenges. The conference also includes panel discussions and networking opportunities.
This year’s central theme is “European Tourism Statistics: A Forward-Looking and Innovative Response to 21st Century User Needs.” The theme highlights the critical role of tourism data in shaping sustainable practices and driving statistical innovation for a better future. The conference will take place in Croatia, in the beautiful city of Split. It offers its participants a unique combination of professional knowledge exchange and an unforgettable Mediterranean ambience.
Dear colleagues,
The Croatian Bureau of Statistics and Eurostat look forward to welcoming you to Split for the 110th DGINS conference, where, together, we will chart new paths on the map of official statistics and embark on a two-day journey towards strengthening dialogue, and developing innovative practices and sustainable approaches. Each new meeting gives us the opportunity to expand on existing knowledge and develop new practices, with the goal of reaching our ultimate destination – high-quality official statistics which, despite challenges, continue to support the development of democratic society.
Official statistics data are invaluable and play a key role in supporting decision-makers, be they politicians, business leaders, individuals, or households, by allowing them to better understand, plan, and shape the future. In the digital age, official statistics must keep pace with the rapid development of technology and implement innovative methods in data production. At the same time, it is crucial that this progress go hand in hand with a sustainable approach. The emergence of innovative data sources and their connection with and integration into traditional statistical methods, as well as the transition of innovative solutions from experimental to official statistics and their broader application across the entire statistical system – are just some of the challenges we face on a daily basis. In order to direct our attention to specific challenges, we will focus on tourism statistics, one of the most important statistical areas, especially in Croatia as a country reliant on tourism.
DGINS 2025 on European Tourism Statistics: A Forward-Looking and Innovative Response to 21st Century User Needs – is a conference that will foster the exchange of knowledge and practical experiences and seek solutions to the challenges faced by tourism statistics. As a key economic sector, tourism calls for a deeper understanding of its impacts on local communities, the environment, and the broader economy. The approaches developed in tourism statistics and the solutions and conclusions we reach together have the potential to be applied more broadly across other areas of statistics, making DGINS 2025 particularly relevant and applicable to the advancement of the statistical field as a whole.
We trust that the carefully crafted programme and the inspiring atmosphere of this beautiful Adriatic city will motivate you to actively participate and exchange ideas.
We are honoured to have the privilege of being your host at the 110th DGINS Conference. Together with Eurostat, we look forward to warmly welcoming you to Split.
